School Anti-racist

We believe that only through education can we overcome chronic societal issues such as structural racism. Our pedagogical interventions begin with literature and the visibility of Black representation and leadership.

In November 2021, prompted by our Leadership and Human Resources teams, Escola Pedra da Gávea created the Racial Diversity Committee—formed by Black and Brown staff and parents who volunteered to foster racial literacy, deepen the understanding of ethnic-racial relations, and promote an Afro-centered perspective within our community, with a shared commitment to fighting inequality.

As Angela Davis once said, “You have to act as if it were possible to radically transform the world. And you have to do it all the time.”

Inspired by this belief, the Committee is dedicated to cultivating an environment where diversity is celebrated, and racial matters are openly addressed. Every step we take brings us closer to building a more just and respectful future, where anti-racist education serves as a strong foundation for a society in transformation.
